AAU - Denmark

Niels Jernes Vej 12 9220 Aalborg, Denmark

AAU-CTIF (Aalborg University, Center for TeleInFrastruktur) is a university with attached research centre with heavy focus on research and education for engineering topics. AAU has extensive experience with several EU projects, including the development of system level solutions for car-to-car communication scenarios with high dependability in the FP6 STREP HIDENETS (for which AAU acts as coordinator), as well as communication architectures and solutions for other future wireless networks, namely Personal Area Networks (PACWOMAN FP5 project) and their extension to Personal Networks (MAGNET FP6 IP, also with AAU coordination).

The research group at AAU has developed architectural and protocol-level solutions for various aspects in other wireless communication scenarios in the past, including the EU FP5 project PACWOMAN, the EU FP6 projects MAGNET, HIDENETS, and SafeDMI.

The OPEN research will be performed in the environment of the Center for TeleInFrastruktur (CTIF) that combines the strengths of ten research divisions in the area of communication with expertise ranging from hardware aspects to communication protocols and architectures, up to multimedia applications.

As AAU is the leader of WP3 it will coordinate the technical work for this part in addition to the technical contributions. As the connectivity and context management solutions are an integral part of the overall OPEN migrations solutions, AAU is also involved in the WPs 1, 4, 5, and 6.

Hans-Peter Schwefel is an Associate Professor and leading the research group at Aalborg University/CTIF that focuses on network architectures, communication protocols and evaluation methodologies for future IP-based wireless networks. He is actively involved in the coordination of the EU FP6 STREP HIDENETS, as well as the EU FP6 projects SafeDMI and MAGNET. He is also leading projects on Quality of Service and Mobility Support in future mobile networks.

He was coordinating external research cooperations directed at innovative technological concepts for future mobile networks at Siemens Mobile Networks before he joined Aalborg University.

While working at Siemens he obtained extensive training on modern industrial management and leadership methods as part of a special management preparation program. Hans obtained his doctoral degree in the area of IP traffic and performance modelling from the Technical University in Munich, Germany.

Thibault Renier is a Research Assistant with the Center for TeleInfrastructure (CTIF) at Aalborg University, Denmark. He is currently working on his PhD thesis ‘Joint analysis of dependability and mobility aspects in IP-based mobile networks’ and is expected to submit around November 2007. He graduated in 2002 from both Aalborg University (M.Sc.E.E. in Mobile Communications) and Ecole Centrale d’Electronique (French engineering diploma in Telecommunications and Networking).

He is currently a member of the Networking and Security Group at Aalborg University and his research focuses on dependability and mobility in future service provisioning platforms. Between 2002 and 2005, he worked on two projects on IMS-based networks in collaboration with Siemens Com, Munich. He is currently involved in the European project, HIDENETS, which aims at providing end-to-end dependable solutions for car-to-car communication scenarios. With respect to mobility aspects, he has also been involved in the CNTK project.
